What bokononists whisper whenever they think of how complicated and unpredictable the machinery of life really is.

By Elton Beard

There are two kinds of people in the world, those who divide people into two kinds and those who don't. I don't.

Shorter David Horowitz:
Ideologues at the lectern
  • Conservatives can't make it in academia without affirmative action.

Plus: "I can't investigate every story," he said. For some reason, the country's third most important newspaper provides Mr. Horowitz space in which to accuse his interlocutors of "gross misrepresentation and falsehood" even though he himself has only recently been caught peddling untruths, and not for the first time. Strange. With the likes of Max Boot and Jonah Goldberg already on the roster you'd think the LA Times would have filled its quota for transparently mendacious Op-Ed writers by now.

Shorter Max Boot:
The wiretaps shouldn't bug us
  • Bush is not a Nixon.

Shorter Niall Ferguson:
Tomorrow's world war today
  • We must attack Iran to prevent an otherwise inevitable nuclear war between Iran and Israel which would destabilize the region and cause an unacceptable increase in the price of oil.

Occasional Disclaimer: the Shorter form was invented by Daniel Davies (now of Crooked Timber) and inaugurated with the original Shorter Steven den Beste.

Update: See Also the retort to Ferguson's slightly longer Telegraph version of the same article at Best of the Blogs, an alternate explication of Ferguson's projection at Small Precautions, a mild critique from anti-war.com and a somewhat shorter Shorter by Blog, Jvstin Style.
